Chile Con Carne
Over the years, we have amassed a large collection of Dutch oven recipes, and we enjoy sharing them
with others who appreciate this form of cast iron cooking. The popularity of Dutch oven cooking has increased
greatly over the past several years as many people discover the benefits of using these cast iron pots and
associated pieces of cast iron cookware. Most of our recipes can be used for indoor cooking in your oven or
outdoors in a more traditional campfire setting.
Ground chuck is simmered together with a chile-tomato sauce in this spicy and delicious main dish that
probably gone in just a second as you serve them. It has an excellent and outstanding flavor that even picky
children can enjoy this dish. An old time favorite indeed.
Ingredients:
1 lb Ground chuck
4 cup cooked or canned kidney beans
3 tablespoons Chile powder
2 cans canned tomatoes
4 tablespoons Salad oil
1 cup thinly sliced onions
1/2 cup diced green pepper
1 1/2 c Barley water
2 cloves, minced garlic
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
Cooking Instructions:
Prep time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 1 hour 40 minutes
Cooking Steps:
- Using a large Dutch oven heat oil and saute the onions and green pepper for about 10
minutes.
- Add the meat and let it cook over high heat then stir until browned.
- Add now the water, tomatoes, salt, sugar, chili powder and garlic.
- Cover and cook over low heat for about 1 hour then add the beans and cook for 30 minutes
more.
- Serve.
